April brought a boost to my side hustle income, with some of my key hustles continuing to deliver solid results. As the weather warmed up, I was able to increase my focus and push through a busy month of growth.
Welcome back to another edition of the Financial Tutor Side Hustle Report! If you're new here, I share detailed insights into my side hustle earnings, providing a breakdown of what worked, what didn’t, and how you can replicate these results. I've been documenting my side hustle journey since 2021, and I’m excited to continue to share what I've learned.
Let’s dive into my income for April 2024!
Side Hustle Income for April 2024
Wag (Dog Walking): $0.00
Amazon Video Review Commissions: $2,078.29
ShareGrid (Camera Rental): $0.00
Podcast: $5.09
Consulting Calls: $0.00
House Hack: Free Housing
Airbnb/VRBO (Short-Term Rental Income): $2,195.18
Monthly Interest: $436.74
Total Side Hustle Income for April 2024 = $4,715.30
Not a bad month at all! April’s income is a big leap compared to previous months, thanks to the growth in Amazon video reviews, Airbnb, and a little boost from my podcast earnings. I’m excited to see this momentum continue into the summer months.
Wag: $0.00
No dog walking this month. With other priorities taking up my time, I didn’t get the chance to pursue Wag. I’ll look to get back into it when the weather improves and my schedule allows.
Amazon Video Review Commissions: $2,078.29
Amazon video reviews performed really well this month, bringing in $2,078.29. I’m happy with this growth, and I plan to continue optimizing my strategy. The goal is to tap into high-traffic categories and keep that income flowing.
ShareGrid (Camera Rental): $0.00
No camera rentals for April. ShareGrid has been slow lately, but I remain optimistic that as we move into wedding season, there will be more demand. I’m planning to market my gear to increase visibility in the coming months.
Podcast: $5.09
My podcast earned $5.09 this month, a small but steady increase. It’s encouraging to see growth, and I’m working on expanding my listener base while improving the content. I’m aiming to build momentum and start seeing more consistent returns soon.
House Hack: Free Housing
House hacking continues to be a strong strategy for keeping my living expenses low. Living in one unit for free helps offset the costs of owning the property. The upstairs unit is rented out long-term, and the garden unit is used for short-term Airbnb rentals. This setup allows me to minimize living costs while generating income from both rentals.
Airbnb/VRBO (Short-Term Rental Income): $2,195.18
Airbnb short-term rental income performed well this month, bringing in $3,132. However, after accounting for the building’s expenses, the net income for April was $2,195.18. The warmer months are helping keep occupancy rates high, and I’m working on improving my listings to maintain strong earnings as the busy summer season approaches.
Building Expenses:
Monthly mortgage payment (including interest): $2,116.07
Home insurance: $151.96
Property taxes: $542.44
Total monthly expenses: $2,810.47
Since the building has three units, the Airbnb portion of these expenses comes to $936.82 per month.
Net Airbnb Income for April: $3,132.00 - $936.82 = $2,195.18
This represents the profit after covering the building’s share of expenses.
Interest Earnings (Robinhood): $436.74
I earned $436.74 in interest on my Robinhood account this month. While I’m still deciding where to invest this money, it’s great to see some consistent returns. It’s a good reminder that even when funds are sitting in an account, they can still work for you.
And that concludes the April Side Hustle Report.
April was a fantastic month, with total side hustle earnings reaching $4,715.30. Amazon video reviews and Airbnb continue to be the primary sources of income, but the podcast is showing promising signs of growth. I’ll continue refining my approach to keep the momentum going.
Looking ahead to May, I plan to stay focused on optimizing my existing hustles while looking for new opportunities to test. Whether it’s scaling up my Amazon video review commissions, promoting my Airbnb listings, or expanding my podcast audience, I’m excited for the potential of the months ahead.
