It’s hard to believe that we’re already into November. Time is moving fast this year it feels like. But anyway, with a new month, it means we need to look back at my side hustle and gig economy earnings for October 2021.
As a quick recap for folks, each month, I document what I earn from side hustling using gig economy and sharing economy apps. I earn income from a variety of sources – this blog, a rental property, and numerous gig economy and sharing economy apps. It’s not a huge amount of money, but it adds up and is enough for me to create a life I want for myself. I hope that these side hustle reports show you what you can do if you’re looking to make a change in your life.
With that said, here’s what I made with each income source last month.
Side Hustle Income for October 2021
Wag: $0
Sharegrid (Camera Rental): $0
Sportsbetting Arbitrage: $82.85
Crypto Interest: $231.57
House Hack: $411.79
Airbnb/Rental Income: $2,912
Total Side Hustle Income for October 2021 = $3,638.21
Life’s been getting pretty busy lately, which I think has impacted my side hustle earnings. One thing to remember about all of the gig economy stuff I do is that it’s all active income. To make money with these activities, I have to be out there working. I think all income is active in some form, but some income is more active than others. And in this case, most of my gig work requires fairly active work.
That said, even with a bit less hustle last month, I was still able to bring in over $3,600 from four different sources. $3,600 might not seem like that much, but combine it with some other sources of income from other activities and you may have enough to support your lifestyle.
In this case, when I combine this income with my blog and my rental income, it’s enough for me to not have to go back and get a regular job.
Let’s take a more detailed look at my side hustle income from last month.
Wag Income: $0
I didn't walk any dogs for the month of August, but hope to in the upcoming months.
Sharegrid (Camera Rental): $0
I have my GoPro 7 hero, GoPro Fusion, and DJI Mavic 2 drone for rent on Sharegrid website. Sharegrid is a website where people local can rent camera equipment. I unfortunately didn't have any request for this month.
Sportsbetting Arbitrage: $82.85
I usually don't condone betting of any kind, but I reached out to by a company, called OddsJam to review their sports arbitrage platform on my YouTube channel. To be honest, I was pretty skeptical at first since the platform was advertised as a risk free way to make extra side money.
The way OddsJam works, similar to other arbitrage side hustles, you buy a product/service for one price and find the similar product/service another place in the market and sell it for a difference. The difference then is your products. Many people do arbitrage, when it comes to buying physical products, such as buying it on Amazon, then selling it on eBay for a higher price. This is the same idea, but with sports betting.
This is the first month of arbitrage sportsbetting. I'm curious to see how this side hustle will preform over the coming months. Stay tuned!
Crypto Interest: $231.57
October marks the first full month I tried a new crypto interest platform, Voyager. I typically use BlockFi to earn interest on my cryptos, but switched over to Voyager to gain slightly bigger BTC and ADA interest yields. For comparison, I received 4.75% BTC and 4.5% ADA annual yields on Voyager, while BlockFi's gave 4.5% BTC and 0% ADA annual yield. It's not a big difference when it comes to the BTC interest difference, but can add up over time, especially if Bitcoin continues to appreciate. For the ADA, it's a no brainer to get 4.5% annual return, compared to BlockFi's 0%.
In total for October, I earned the following from BlockFi; $10.90 in USDC, .00504804 in ETH (about $21.64 USD when ETH was at $4,288.07 at the end of October), and .00007772 in BTC (about $4.69 USD when BTC was at $60,380.23 at the end of October).
As for my first full month with Voyager I earned $65.04 in USDC, .002096 in BTC (about $126.55 USD when BTC was at $60,380.23 at the end of October), and 1.4 ADA (about $2.75 USD when ADA was at $1.9650 at the end of October).
House Hack Income: $411.79
If you’re a regular reader, you know that I bought a three-flat in Chicago in June 2019. I lived in the building while doing the renovations and moved out in June of this year. I rent the bottom garden unit for $1,000, plus $100 for the two car garage. The top unit rents for $2,325 per month. So in total I'm collecting $3,425 per month in rents. While I still have the middle apartment open for Airbnb, which is discussed below.
My monthly mortgage payment with insurance and property taxes was $3,013.21. There were no repairs in September, which meant I earned a total of $411.79 for the month of September.
Airbnb/Rental Income Income: $2,912
Early last month, four college guests moved into the Airbnb for a three-month internship near the apartment. They are planning to stay until early December. So far everything has been running very smoothly, besides the small hiccup with the A/C last month.
In total, I was booked for all 31 days in October. I collected $2,912 from Airbnb. Fingers cross the medium term stays on Airbnb continue to go smoothly.
And that concludes the October 2021 Side Hustle Report.
October was a busy month, so I’m glad to see that I was able to earn some income from these apps. As we hit the winter months, I tend to slow down on these apps, so it’s good to get the money while I can.
