September was another productive month, with solid income across several hustles. While a few streams like Wag and consulting calls didn’t generate much this month, others, such as Amazon video reviews, co-hosting, and Airbnb, continue to bring in steady returns.
Welcome to the September 2024 edition of the Financial Tutor Side Hustle Report! For those who are new, I’ve been documenting my side hustle journey since 2021. Each month, I break down the earnings from my various side hustles, including gig economy jobs, consulting, and investments. I also provide insights into what’s working, what needs adjustments, and how I’m growing my income streams.
Let’s dive into how September 2024 turned out!
Side Hustle Income for September 2024
Wag (Dog Walking): $0.00
Amazon Video Review Commissions: $715.41
ShareGrid (Camera Rental): $0.00
Podcast: $11.65
Co-Hosting: $408.12
Consulting Calls: $0.00
House Hack: Free Housing
Airbnb/VRBO (Short-Term Rental Income): $3,554.18
Monthly Interest: $616.95
Total Side Hustle Income for September 2024 = $4,806.31
September brought in a total of $6,242.13 from my side hustles. While a few hustles weren’t as active this month, I saw some exciting growth in others. Here's a closer look at the breakdown for each hustle this month.
Wag: $0.00
No dog-walking this month. With everything else going on, Wag has remained on the backburner for now. It’s still an option for when the timing and need arise, but for now, I’m focusing on the more consistent income streams.
Amazon Video Review Commissions: $715.41
Amazon video reviews brought in $715.41 this month. While this is a bit lower than some past months, it’s still a decent amount for a side hustle that doesn’t take up too much time. I’ll continue refining my approach to maximize earnings in this area.
ShareGrid (Camera Rental): $0.00
No camera rentals on ShareGrid this month. With no gear available to rent out, I didn’t generate any income from this platform. I’m keeping this in mind for the future when the right equipment becomes available again.
Podcast: $11.65
The podcast earned $11.65 in September. It’s a modest amount, but it’s progress! As I continue to improve the content and promote the podcast, I’m hopeful the earnings will grow. Expanding my listener base and monetizing effectively is the next goal.
Co-Hosting: $408.12
Co-hosting on Airbnb brought in $408.12 this month. While still not a huge amount, it’s a solid start as I continue to build my co-hosting reputation and network. I’m optimistic that this will grow as I gain more clients and expand my services.
Consulting Calls: $0.00
Consulting calls didn’t generate any income in September. I’ve been focusing on other hustles, but this is an area I’ll continue to nurture moving forward. I’m looking into ways to promote consulting services more effectively in the coming months.
House Hack: Free Housing
The house hack continues to be a great strategy, providing me with free housing. By living in one unit and renting out the other two units—one long-term and one as a short-term rental—I keep my living expenses low and maintain a steady stream of income.
Airbnb/VRBO (Short-Term Rental Income): $3,554.18
The Airbnb short-term rental hustle earned me $4,491.00 this month. After covering the building’s share of expenses, my net income from this hustle is $3,554.18. Airbnb continues to be a reliable income stream, and I’m focused on maintaining occupancy rates and optimizing my listings.
Building Expenses:
Monthly mortgage payment (including interest): $2,116.07
Home insurance: $151.96
Property taxes: $542.44
Total monthly expenses: $2,810.47
Since the building has three units, the Airbnb portion of these expenses is $936.82 per month.
Net Airbnb Income for September:$4,491.00 - $936.82 = $3,554.18This is my actual profit from the Airbnb hustle after covering the building’s share of expenses.
Interest Earnings (Robinhood): $616.95
Interest from my Robinhood account brought in $616.95 this month. While I haven’t yet decided on long-term investments, it’s nice to see this extra income while I consider my options. I’m planning to use these earnings to explore more investment opportunities down the road.
And that concludes the September Side Hustle Report.
September ended with a total of $4,806.31 in earnings. While some hustles like Wag and consulting calls didn’t generate much, I’ve seen consistent income from Amazon video reviews, co-hosting, and Airbnb. I’m excited to continue refining these income streams and explore new opportunities to diversify further.
Looking ahead to October, I’m eager to keep building on the successes of these hustles and scale up wherever possible. As always, the goal is to continue optimizing and finding new ways to increase my side hustle income.
